FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT CONTACT INFORMATION & REQUESTS

PURPOSE/FOIA OFFICERS 

The Freedom of Information Act "FOIA" (5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.) allows the public to request copies or the inspection of public records. 

In compliance with FOIA, notice is hereby given that the designated FOIA officers for the Office of Winnebago County State’s Attorney are Chief of Civil Bureau, Lafakeria Reuter and Assistant State’s Attorney, Jacob Finley. All requests for information regarding the Office of the Winnebago County State’s Attorney under FOIA should be directed to the persons above. 


ABOUT THE OFFICE

The purpose of the Office of the Winnebago County State’s Attorney is to prosecute traffic offenses, misdemeanors and felonies committed in Winnebago County on behalf of the citizens of Winnebago County and the people of the State of Illinois, and to defend the county and its officers in any civil case brought against them. The office also provides legal counsel to the Winnebago County Board and all county elected and appointed officials and department heads. The annual budget of the office is approximately $4 million. The number of employees of the office currently totals 95, including 45 attorneys.


HOW TO SUBMIT A REQUEST

Business hours of the office are 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

FOIA requests may be filed in person, during those hours, by mail, fax or via e-mail. Contact info listed below. A response to the FOIA request will be provided to the requester within five (5) business days from the day the office receives the request (excluding any extension thereof). Requests received by mail will be considered received on the business day the mail is received by the office. If a request is sent by e-mail during business hours on a business day, it will be considered being received on that day. If the e-mail is sent after business hours or on a non-business day, it will be considered received on the next business day. Saturdays, Sundays and legal county holidays are not counted in the computation of the 5-day response period.

  • Fees — The first 50 pages (black and white) are without charge. There is a $.15/page (black and white) charge for every page over 50 pages (See Section 6 of FOIA)
